Tasting Notes: Tasting notes taken 12 June 2013, 20 days after kegging. Dispensed from kegerator into a pint glass. Appearance: light golden hue with a touch of haze and a light effervescence. Head poured several fingers of frothy white foam due to a little overpressurization in the keg. The head has good retention, though, with plenty of chunky lace sticking to the glass. I like it. (4) Smell: a moderately grainy malt character and light dose of piney hops work well here. It's pretty good, stylistically, although I would say aroma intensity is a bit too low; this may have something to do with its relatively low gravity. (3.5) Taste: grainy malt with a hint of sourness and a moderate bitterness that fades away pretty quickly on the finish. I think this beer turned out quite well; it's balanced and stylistically accurate, if a little bit on the weak side (though this is by design). Not bad. (3.75) Mouthfeel: light and somewhat watery with a low level of carbonation and not much in the way of creaminess. Disappointing, but not unexpected. (3) Drinkability: this is pretty much this beer's raison d'être. This beer is light in weight, flavor and alcohol, and goes down like you wouldn't believe. A little more carbonation would help, but this bad boy is made for quaffin'. (4.5) Overall score 3.75 (B). This beer was brewed for the 2013 24 Hour Challenge, whereupon we tried to drink 24 beers, walk 24 miles and eat 24 tacos in 24 hours. We gave up halfway through due to lack of interest, but we did manage to drink a ton of this stuff. Tastes great, less filling! I need to revisit the California Common style more; it's just a good old-fashioned drinkin' beer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
